Vacant and Abandoned Residential Property (N.J.S.A. 2A:50-73)

In 2019, Governor Phil Murphy signed nine new laws that affect New Jersey foreclosures. The laws aim to help homeowners and reduce foreclosures. This article describes the law that relates to vacant and abandoned residential property.

If a property is vacant and abandoned (meaning no one lives there and no one is coming back), the lender can request a faster foreclosure process to take back ownership of the property.
