Homelessness, Shelters, and Emergency Housing

HOMELESSNESS PREVENTION PROGRAM (HPP)

HPP provides rental assistance to low- and moderate-income persons who are facing eviction because of temporary financial problems beyond their control. Assistance from this program is not available to people on welfare and/or receiving any other housing assistance. (Welfare recipients have other financial resources available to them.) To make a referral, contact the office in the county where you (or your client) live. Projects for Assistance in Transition from Homelessness (PATH) Program

PATH PROGRAMS provide services to individuals suffering from serious mental illness, or suffering from serious mental illness and substance abuse; who are homeless or at imminent risk of becoming homeless.

The PATH program provides outreach and case management services, and assists homeless, mentally ill individuals in obtaining housing and access to mental health services. Support and coordination of additional necessary services, such as assessment, service planning, service linkage, ongoing monitoring, ongoing clinical support, and advocacy is also provided through the program.   • Homeless Management Information System (HMIS)
    • Collects client level data, data on housing and services for homeless individuals and families at risk of homelessness
    • Displays Shelter & Transitional Bed openings across NJ for adult and registered youth popultions

  • The Supportive Housing Association of NJ (SHA)
    • Provides  housing resources for families and youth
    • Strengthens organizations capacity and advocates for innovation & systems change.

  • New Jersey Housing Resource Center (NJHRC)
    • A FREE, online searchable registry of affordable and accessible housing units throughout the State of New Jersey.

  • Covenant House New Jersey
    • CHNJ helps youth facing homelessness and human trafficking. We provide immediate shelter and care for youth age 18-21. They also provide an array of services to promote resilience to enable our clients to transition to independent living.
