Some New Jersey employers are beginning to ask employees who do not have a bank account to use a "payroll card" to receive their wages. A payroll card looks like a bank debit card. The money you earn goes into an account held by the company that issued the card, and you withdraw it—often at an ATM machine—or spend it by using the card.
There are some questions you may want to ask to figure out whether a payroll card is a good idea for you. See Questions for Employees to Ask About Payroll Cards (from Consumers Union) for more information.
