On October 15, Governor Murphy issued an Executive Order extending existing COVID-related protections against utility service terminations throughout the state.
- No shut-offs of residential electric, gas, and water shut-offs for non-payment will be allowed before March 15, 2021. Any residential services disconnected since March 16, 2020, must be reconnected without charge. Customers who can afford to begin paying down arrears while the ban on shut-offs is in place are encouraged to do so.
- No shut-offs of residential internet and telephone service will be allowed before November 15, 2020. After that, the protection against shut-offs will be available, through March 15, 2021, to households that inform their internet service provider they have school aged children who need internet connectivity for remote learning, Providers will be required to offer payment plans to customers with arrears that extend for at least 12 months.
