Local SSA offices are currently closed to walk-ins and face-to-face appointments. However, there is a temporary new way for the public to contact local SSA offices with general inquiries. When you look up a local SSA office on their zip code office finder page, it now gives you a temporary “general inquiry” phone number for that particular local SSA office which people can call to reach someone there while those offices are closed to the public for in-person meetings. Previously, no such numbers were published and you had to call the national toll-free number, which has considerable delays.
If you have a scheduled Social Security hearing, you should call your local hearing office to discuss your case and the status of any hearing dates. You may be given the option of a hearing by phone. If you choose not to do your hearing by phone, your hearing will be postponed.
