FAQ - Can my rent be increased during the pandemic?

New Jersey Housing Mortgage and Finance Agency (NJHMFA) properties have suspended rent increases amid Covid-19. To see if your property is a NJHMFA property, please go to the NJ DCA website (https://www.nj.gov/dca/hmfa/media/download/property/MasterList-EligibleProperties_rentfreeze.pdf). Some municipalities also may have suspended rent increases during the pandemic.

You may want to call city hall to see if your municipality has passed an ordinance to freeze rent increases.

For more information about rent increases, go to https://www.lsnjlaw.org/Housing/Landlord-Tenant/Rent-Increases/Pages/default.aspx?OtherTopics=Rent%20Increases.
