Disabled war veterans pursuant to N.J.S.A. 54:4-3.30 et seq.
Disabled war veterans receive full property tax exemptions for dwelling houses (including condos/other units) and lots. Application is made using Form D.V.S.S.E. The exemption is available to 100 percent disabled veterans who were honorably discharged and who sustained the injury while in active service in the U.S. armed forces through enemy action, accident, or disease. So long as not remarried, the exemption is available to the surviving spouse of any citizen and resident of New Jersey who died in active service in time of war. Since 2007, a surviving spouse of a disabled veteran may claim a property tax exemption when the veteran’s disability declaration was granted after death.
Other veterans and their surviving spouses pursuant to N.J.S.A 54:4-8.11 et seq.
A $250 annual property tax deduction is available for honorably discharged veterans who served on active duty in the armed forces during a time of war. Application is made using Form V.S.S. The property tax deduction is available for qualifying tenant shareholders in cooperatives or mutual housing corporations in proportion to the qualifying individual's share of the taxes.
