I am a temporary guest living in a hotel/motel

If you are a temporary guest in a hotel/motel, the owner of the hotel/motel the tenancy statute does not apply to you and the owner or manager of the hotel/motel can lock you out of your room without court process.

In order to fully protect your rights you should talk to an attorney. If you are a low-income New Jersey resident, you may be eligible for legal help from a Legal Services office in your area.

View a list of regional Legal Services Offices and phone numbers.

If you are not eligible for assistance from Legal Services, you may want to try to get a private lawyer. To do this, call the lawyer referral service of your county bar association.
