Catastrophic Illness in Children Relief Fund

 

This program, administered by the NJ Department of Human Services, provides financial assistance for families whose children have experienced an illness or condition that is not otherwise covered by insurance, state or federal programs, or other sources, such as fundraising.

To be eligible the child must be:

  • 21 years old or younger when the expenses were incurred;
  • With expenses that are not covered by insurance or federal or state programs that exceed:
    • 10% of the family’s annual income
    • Plus 15% of any income over $100,000; and
  • The family has resided in New Jersey at least 3 months prior to application.

The following covered expenses will be considered and may be eligible for payment/reimbursement if found reasonable. The categories include, but are not limited to:

  • Specialized pediatric ambulatory care
  • Treatment for addictions/mental health services
  • Care in acute or specialized hospitals
  • Physician care in all settings
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Disposable medical supplies/durable medical equipment
  • Transportation for children’s medical care
  • Home health care
  • Home renovations related to medical need
  • Experimental medical treatment or pharmaceuticals following special review
