Housing and Homelessness Resources

Housing

  • Guide to Affordable Housing in New Jersey - Identifies developments with apartments or houses affordable to low- and moderate-income families. The Guide does not list every affordable unit in New Jersey, nor does it include all special needs housing. It also includes a list of State and local offices that may be of assistance.

  • New Jersey Housing Resource Center - Provides an online tool for finding affordable housing, helping people with disabilities find housing options, and obtaining housing information and links. It is free and anonymous.

Homelessness, Shelters, and Emergency Housing

  • The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has a complete list of shelters and emergency housing, organized by county. You may also contact the NJ Information and Referral agency in your county.

  • For additional resources and shelter information, visit the Directory of Local Homeless Service Organizations for New Jersey.

  • Homelessness Prevention Program - Rental assistance to low- and moderate-income persons who are facing eviction because of temporary financial problems beyond their control. Assistance from this program is not available to people on Welfare and/or receiving any other housing assistance. (Welfare recipients have other financial resources available to them.) To make a referral, contact the office in the county where you (or your client) live.
