Description of Services: Staff members provide one-on-one assistance to litigants and also organize court events and public outreach initiatives such as information fairs, law day, seminars, speakers’ bureau, and court tours. In addition, staff members develop public information resources and maintain the center’s library of pamphlets, brochures, legal resource materials, and factsheets. Staff members also assist centers visitors with public access computers and Lexis Nexus computers.
Hours of Operation: Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Self-Help Resource Center
Location: Superior Court of New Jersey, Union Vicinage 1143 East Jersey Street, 1st Floor Elizabeth, NJ 07207
Description of Services: Volunteers under the supervision of the Office of the Ombudsman provide the services described below. The center operates on a “drop-in basis.” No appointment is necessary.
- One-on-one assistance in filling out and completing court forms such as forms for appeals, civil actions, divorce, family motions, expungements, special civil part litigation, small claims, name changes, and landlord/tenant matters
- Answers to questions about how the court works and deadlines involved

Self-Help Resource Center (SHRC)

Description of Services: Staff members assist self-represented litigants to navigate the court system and improve public access to the courts. Staff offer information on court processes and procedures, respond to questions, and provide direction on forms and packets for self-represented litigants. They handle requests and inquiries on an individual basis as well as in small group settings. The SHRC collaborates with Ocean-Monmouth Legal Services under the Legal Assistance Partnership Program to provide workshops on legal topics and conduct intake screenings for legal assistance to those who meet the qualifications.
Hours of operation: Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. — walk-in basis Workshops and intake screenings are by appointment only. Note: Staff in Judiciary Self-Help Resource Centers cannot provide legal advice.
